Tia Maria is a Jamaican coffee liqueur, embodying elements of mystery, sophistication and exotic seduction. A poignant and beautiful tale lies behind the origins of Tia Maria. In Jamaica during the 17th Century colonial wars, a young Spanish noble woman and her family were forced to flee their home. Among the few possessions of the family salvaged by the loyal maid was a secret liqueur manuscript. Many years later the woman passed the recipe onto her daughter on her wedding day, who decided to dedicate the recipe to the maid by virtue of its namesake – Tia Maria.
In the 1950’s Tia Maria Liqueur became a commercial success after Dr Kenneth Evans bore witness to its flavour brilliance and started the epoch of Tia Maria – a liqueur of mystery, sophistication, and exotic appeal.
